The Gotham Awards is an annual ceremony of awards presented to the makers of independent films which takes place in New York City.Part of the Independent Feature Project (IFP), the largest membership organization in the United States dedicated to independent film (founded in 1979), the Gotham Awards was inaugurated in 1991 as a means of showcasing and honoring films made primarily in the Northeastern region of the United States.

FIlmmakers and digital exhibitors both need each other. They both expect a lot out of each other. Sometimes it hasnt been communicated what the expectations are. Sometimes its good in relationships to just step back and spell out the needs. What are the exhibitors needs? What are the filmmakers needs?

3. DIY Days Wine Cellar Heated Debate on the State of the Film Industry

Exactly a year ago a room full of filmmaker and technologists got together to discuss what was wrong with the film industry and how we might go about fixing it. Parts of the discussion turned into almost a screaming debate as we all struggled to get our ideas heard by the rest of the table. In the end, I'm not sure what productive outcome the talk had, but we had a good time. And at least we got the entire thing on video.

5. Lee Daniels Interview

The term black cinema is thrown about like a disposable napkin by the media. It's a way of categorizing certain movies that are deemed to be less marketable outside of the African American community. But I think Lee Daniels' films speak to a wider audience. They deal with universal subject matters, like lonelyness or the yearning to be loved. His films resonate with an ever present candid openness.
